Citroen
Citroen was one of the world’s first mass production manufacturers in the world outside of the United States. Andre Citroen, the company’s founder, originally built armaments for France in World War I. After the war, Citroen had factory and no product. This led to the production of automobiles. In 1919, Andre Citroen founded the automobile manufacturing company named after him. Citroen is credited with producing the first front wheel drive vehicle, the Citroen Traction Avant in 1934. more
Kia
The vehicle manufacturer Kia’s name is derived from the Korean words “ki” and “a”. “Ki” means to come out of and “a” means Asia. Kia essentially means “to come out of Asia.” Kia is South Korea’s oldest car company. Originally Kia was known for producing bicycles and steel tubing. more
Ford
Along with the Dodge Brothers, Henry Ford founded Ford Motor Company in 1903. Although the company was officially established in 1903, Ford had been building vehicles prior to the formation of the infamous company the bore his name. Nissan
The company we know today as Nissan was originally named Datsun. Datsun was an acronym of the owners’ family names; Den, Aoyama, and Takeuchi. The company was renamed Kwaishinsha in1918 and back to DAT Motorcar Co. in 1925. In addition to passenger cars, the manufacturer built trucks. In fact, most of the vehicles manufactured at that point were trucks due to the lack of consumers for passenger vehicles at the time. more |
