Nissan
The company we know today as Nissan was originally named Datsun. Datsun was an acronym of the owners’ family names; Den, Aoyama, and Takeuchi. The company was renamed Kwaishinsha in1918 and back to DAT Motorcar Co. in 1925. In addition to passenger cars, the manufacturer built trucks. In fact, most of the vehicles manufactured at that point were trucks due to the lack of consumers for passenger vehicles at the time.
In 1918, DAT trucks began production for military. The name Nissan did not come about until ten years later in 1928. By 1934, Nissan Motor Company was established. More than thirty years later, Nissan merged with Prince Motor Company and developed more upmarket vehicles including the Skyline and Gloria. Because of the Chicken tax of 1964 imposed by the United States, Nissan began building a plant in the United States by the 1980’s. For the twenty years following, Nissan was responsible for the manufacture of a variety of vehicles including a new luxury brand named Infiniti. Ten years later, Nissan formed an alliance with Renault S.A. of France.
The first product of the alliance was named the Nissan Primera. The year 2002 was the release of the Nissan Altima hybrid prototype in America. In 2004, Nissan introduced a full size pickup truck for the American market called the Nissan Titan. The Nissan brand is currently experiencing massive recalls in their newer vehicles. The company is striving to regain the trust of the public after the recalls. Nissan is trying to make things right with their customers by fixing those recalled vehicles and taking a better look at current quality control measures. |
